What is it?
A group of local business owners have decided to unite to create a festive weekend of community. While we are not able to gather for events at this time, we would still like to give Stanwood a fun holiday experience, and promote our businesses. We’d like to encourage everyone to shop locally, and think having a little fun will bring us more customers this holiday season.
How does it work?
We are in the process of designing a game board that customers will be able to take to local businesses for a stamp/punch. Each participating business is welcome to offer different deals during this week (maybe a percentage off, free gift with purchase, BOGO, free hot chocolate, etc). Deals are not required – you are welcome to carry on business as usual, and just offer to stamp anyone that comes in. But while they’re there….it might be nice to provide an incentive for shopping.
*Update: Because we have so many businesses participating (!) we are going to create a game card with blank spaces for stamps, instead of logo'd spaces that get checked off. Each game card will have 10-15 blank spaces.
Shoppers will be able to submit their completed game card to be entered to win a gift basket. We’ll see how many businesses participate, and maybe even offer more than one gift basket prize. We’re really hoping to make this a community event for years to come (like Glass Quest), and people love prizes!
*Update: The Facebook event is live.
Please use the event listing to post your specials and promotions. Please share as much as possible.
What are the requirements of a participating business?
Each business will display our “Hometown Holidays” poster* in their front window and a flyer* at check out. (*this poster and flyer will be provided to you) We also ask that each business promote the event. We will send out the event logo to everyone participating to use in their social media posts. Just like Glass Quest, we want to brand this event so that shoppers are not confused about when it’s happening, how it works, what’s involved, etc. So please post often about the event, giving specifics about how your business is participating.
Each business will also be asked to donate a small item for our prize gift baskets. The item can be a physical item, gift card, percentage off purchase – you name it. Ideally the value will be at least $5.
When is it?
Thursday, December 10th – Saturday, December 12th - 4-7pm each day. We're aiming for festive evening "after hours" shopping. Think twinkle lights and cocoa. I won't tell if you pop some bubbles :) We decided to do a weekend for a bunch of reasons. Not all businesses are open 7 days a week, and we want as many as possible to celebrate. And the longer the event, the more customers will be able to get involved. We’d also like to avoid over crowding any businesses and be respectful of the Phase 2 restrictions.
We will begin promoting the event in stores on Shop Small Saturday. (If we are ready with marketing materials ahead of that, we might begin posting online – we’ll keep you posted)
How do I join?
Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the list. Your business name will be added to the game board. (We do not need to know what your promotion is. You will be responsible for getting the word out on your shop's deals/promotions. We'll work to get people there!)
What other businesses are participating?
Right now, we have confirmed participation from:
Hometown Brew/Mustard Seed Bakery
Purple Sunset Boutique
L. Shows Studio
Ladders Clothing & Co.
Vide Verde Home
Brick Road Antiques
Tea With Your Dragon
Nana's Rings & Things
Doilies 2 Doorknobs
Just James Boutique
Stilly River Yarns
(we will continue to update this list)
